Exporting After Effects for Vimeo and YouTube

I recently made a viral video for wagamama as part of the Me and My Bod campaign.I searched high and low for exporting settings from After Effects for video sharing sites like Vimeo. Hope this helps!I think Vimeo is the best video sharing site out there. It steers clear of the rubbish branding that YouTube puts on your videos and Vimeo retain such good quality…as well as being a generally nicer site with less advertising and dodgy content. So I thought I’d share the wealth of how my export settings. The aim is to save out as a .MOV file for Vimeo upload, this is not for HD upload… Vimeo HD details can be found here

Right… so in After Effects, Make Movie (Apple Shortcut is Command+M)In the Render Settings menu, Choose Quality- BEST. Resolution- FULL. Frame Rate- Use computers Frame Rate. Leave all the rest as default. Click OK. Now in the Output Module menu (based on Lossless) Format- QuickTime Movie. Move down to Video Output. Click Format Options. This menu is the most important one for Export. In the Compression Settings drop down menu, choose: H.264 Conversion. 25 Frames per second for non-US users, Quality should be in between Medium and High. Click OK. In Output Mobile Settings, Make sure Audio Output tickbox is checked, (if your video has audio) and leave at 44.100 KHz, 16 Bit, Mono, Compressor: IMA 4:1. Click OK and you are done for the After Effects Output. If the .mov file is still too large to upload (you want it at no larger than 20MB really for a good Vimeo upload)The final Wagamama Me and My bod video is on Vimeo now for you to check out. I will do one for exporting from Quicktime soon too so you can export that way.

I use a MacBook Pro 1.83 Ghz, 2GB Intel Core Duo Processor.
But I think your PC should be able to cope with the rendering!
The fastest way is to render to your local machine and then save to an external harddrive to save space. I would recommend switching to a Mac if you are getting into video editing. The best software is undoubtably Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe After Effects.
Not too sure on the PCs. All the best.
