When using Outlook in an office environment you normally run it in cached exchange mode, put simply, this means that it stores a local copy of your mailbox, and associated items so that you can still work and prepare emails, appointments and notes whilst you exchange server may be offine.

I recently wanted to free up some hard drive space from my Windows Vista Business laptop, first off I used the newly improved “Disk Cleanup” utility, which can get rid of a lot of unnecessary files like temporary internet, cached office docs and temp files. After disk cleanup, i set on with the standard task of looking at properties of folders to see where the largest files were located and came across a few folders you may not need that can give you quite a few GB free.

This is going to be a very short post, a Global Address List is a list of global (relative to the organisation, not the world!) contact details from your Active Directory(AD). Whenever you send an email or use the messaging features of Exchange, it takes a look at this GAL to see if it already has the details before venturing into the world to find the details.
